⁵ Rather curiously, I do not find this title actually used in any records of Bijjala himself, which I can verify; and, as a rule, his successors do not seem to have used it. But it is allotted to him in the Balagâmve inscription of April, A.D.1168, which records his abdication (P. S. and O.-C. Inscrs. No. 195; Mysore Inscriptions, p. 109), and in another Balagâmve inscription of A. D. 1179 (Ind. Ant. Vol. V. p. 45). And there is but little doubt that he did assume and use it, with the other titles.—It is applied to him in the transcript of one of his own inscriptions at Chikka-Kerûr in the Dhârwâr District (on a stone on the bank of the tank; Carn.-Désa Inscrs., Vol. II. p. 86). But I have not an ink-impression, by which to check the transcript.
