Of the time of Eṛaga or Eṛega, we have one record,—a stone inscription at Maṇṭûr in the Mudhôḷ State:³ it mentions him by the name of Ereyamma, with the title of Mahâsâmanta; it shews that he was a feudatory of the Western Châlukya king Jayasiṁha II.; and it furnishes for him a date in the month Mârgaśira (Nov.-Dec.), falling in A. D. 1040, of the Vikrama saṁvatsara, Śaka-Saṁvat 962 (expired).⁴ The Saundatti inscription of the period A. D. 1050 to 1096 speaks of him as acquainted with the science of music.
