∗ This invasion and the subsequent operations are described in the Pādishāhnāmah, and also in the Bahāristān-i-Ghaibi, a contemporary record of events in Bengal during the reign of Jahangir, to whom it was dedicated by the author. I am indebted to Professor Jadu-nāth Sarkar for a translation of the relevant portions of the latter work. It is there stated that before the invasion described in the text, Islam Khan had sent an expedition against Parikshit under the command of Abdul Wahid, who suffered a severe defeat.
