The Kachāri King Bhimbal, died in 1637 and was succeeded by his son Indra Ballabh, who sent envoys to Pratāp Singh to enlist his friendship. His advances were coldly received, as it was thought that his letter was not couched on sufficiently respectful terms. This, like all subsequent communications between the two nations, was carried viâ Koliābar and not by the old route along the valley of the Dhansiri. That valley had been depopulated in the course of the repeated wars, and it was already becoming overgrown with the jungle which now forms the Nāmbar forest.
