There were also twelve Rājkhowas, and a number of Katakis, Kākatis and Dalais. The first mentioned were commanders of three thousand men and were subordinate to the Bar Barua. They were often employed as arbitrators to settle disputes, and as the superintendents of public works. The Katakis acted as agents for the king in his dealings with foreign states and with the hill tribes; the Kākatis were writers, and the Dalais expounded the *Jyotish Shāstras* and determined auspicious days for the commencement of important undertakings.
