∗ This description of the ruins of Dimāpur is taken mainly from that given by Major Godwin-Austen in the journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal for 1874, page 1. A more recent account of the remains will be found in Dr. T. Bloch's Archæological Report for 1902-03. According to some, there was formely a wall on the south side also, which has now been washed away.
