Bir Darpa died in 1681 and was succeeded by his son Garurdhvaj, who sent a messenger to the Bar Phukan asking that the usual congratulatory envoys might be sent to him by the Ahom king. He was told in reply that nothing would be done until he had himself sent envoys with letters in the usual form to the Ahom king and his chief nobles. This he failed to do, and relations between the two courts again became strained till his death in 1695. He was succeeded in turn by his two sons, Makardhvaj and Udayāditya.
