Ghiyās-ud-din, a Governor of Bengal in the early part of the thirteenth century, is said to have ascended the Brahmaputra as far as Sadiya, but in the end he was defeated and driven back to Gaur. This invasion is mentioned in the *Tabaqāt-i-Nāsiri** where it is assigned to the year 1227 A.D., but the seizure of his own capital by Nasiruddin, eldest son of the Emperor Altamsh, is there given as the cause of his hasty return from Assam.
