The language of the record is Sanskrit and mostly prose. The record belongs to the Western Chāḷukya king Kīrtivarman II whose ancestors are mentioned between lines 2-59. The object of the inscription is to record in the eleventh year of his reign, 679 *Śaka*, the gift of Śulliyūr and two other villages to Mādhava-Śarman. The gift was made while the king was encamped on the northern bank of Bhīmarathi.
