Twelve Sanskrit verses in the Grantha-Pallava running round the outside of the central shrine. The record opens with a benediction addressed to Ganga, and then gives a mythical pedigree of Pallava from (Brahman). It further says that in the race of the Pallavas was born Ugradanḍa, the destroyer of the city of Raṇarasika whose son was Rājasimha who bore the surnames *Atyantakāma*, *Raṇajaya*, *Śrībhara*; he is said to have built the Śiva temple round which the inscription is written and called it after his own name Rājasimha-Pallaveśvara or Rājasimheśvara.
