A.D. 1657.—Hitherto, Sivajee had confined his usurpations and ravages to the Beejapoor territory; but become more daring by impunity, and invited by circumstances, he ventured to depart from his original policy, and to extend his depredations to the imperial districts. To explain the motives which actuated him we must revert to the proceedings of the Moghuls.
