Further, Ranade (p. 98) agrees substantially with the opinion of Grant Duff, while the following statement appears in Krishnājī Anant’s life of Sivājī (Mānkar’s trans., 2nd ed., 1886): ‘The King then sent word to Netājī Pālkar . . . to be ready with his army for an attack at a signal given (which would be the blast of a collirie horn), for the next day he would have an interview with the Khān and accomplish his object of assassinating him.’ This evidence confirms Grant Duff’s view of Sivājī’s treachery, which is accepted by the best modern authorities.
