v1.c15.51
Whilst the Khan was thus employed, Sivajee undertook a secret expedition to Golcondah, where he is said to have exacted a contribution to a large amount,⁵ and safely conveyed the money to Raigurh. On the march, or immediately after his return, he let loose the greater part of his cavalry on the Moghul territory, levying contributions from towns, and plundering the smaller villages. In the details of this predatory warfare, both the Mahrattas and Moghuls claim advantages; if the former fled, they generally brought off their booty; an object which the horsemen were taught to regard as the most substantial honour.
