¹ In the Beejapoor MSS. of Abou Hoossein Qazee, it is asserted that Abdoollah Khan, the governor, gave it up for a bribe of 50,000 pagodas. [Sarkar (Shivaji and His Times, p. 387) states that Vellore fell in August 1678. The siege began in May 1677.]
