³ Colonel Wilks states that the Mahrattas were invited by Meer Assud, the Dewan of Sufdur Ali. Some confirmation of this appears in Tippoo’s circular letter, translated by Mr. Edmonstone; but I have met with no trace of it in any Mahratta record.
