v1.c7.2

¹ [Dravida (Drawed) was the ancient name of the extreme southern portion of the Indian peninsula, in which the Tamil language was spoken. Excluding the modern Mysore State and the Malabar coast, it comprised the present Madras Presidency, including Travancore, from Cape Comorin in the south to the Krishna (Kistna) river in the north. Kumarila Bhatta (A.D. 700) called the language of Southern India Andhra-dravida-bhāsha, i.e. the Telugu-Tamil language (see O.H.I., p. 13).]
