v1.c8.71
This proposal was blindly acceded to. The troops marched, were drawn into an ambuscade, treacherously beset in the night, and nearly seven thousand Mahomedans together with their general, when buried in sleep, were inhumanly massacred by the Mahrattas. The remainder of the Sultan’s army retreated; the Sirkay family regained possession of their country, and for a period of nearly sixteen years no further attempt was made to follow up the plan of Meamun Oolla Deccanee.
