² Sir C. Malet’s dispatches. [The two forts, which were both dismantled about 1845, are named Bāvanbande (‘fifty-two rocks’) and Rānmanḍal (‘battle-field’). Bādāmi is now a village in the Bijāpur District, and a station on the Southern Marāṭhā Railway. It was captured by General Munro in 1818. In 1840 a band of 125 Arabs from the Niẓām’s territory, headed by a blind Brahman, seized the village, plundered the Government treasury and market, and carried the booty into the Niẓām’s territory. The Brahman and his followers were caught, tried and sentenced to transportation. (I.G. Bom., 1909, ii. 44.)]
