¹ Raymond died March 25th, 1798. [Lord Mornington in a letter of November 29, 1798, to Captain Kirkpatrick, Resident at Hyderābād, wrote: ‘You will take particular care that none of the men of the late French corps, denominated “Pondicherry Sepoys,” be entertained by Colonel Roberts for the Company’s service. Indeed, although it might not be proper to require it, it would be satisfactory to me to learn that Azīm-ul-Umrah had included the whole of this description in the number of the French party proposed to be completely disbanded.’]
