² [On March 6, 1799, a Bombay force defeated a large body of the enemy on the Coorg frontier. The Carnatic army under General Harris crossed the frontier on March 5, defeated Tipū at Malavelli on March 27, and stormed Seringapatam on May 4. (O.H.I., p. 583.) On May 14 Lord Mornington wrote to the Pēshwā, announcing the victory and the death of Tipū (Forrest, Selections (Marāthā Series), p. 629.)]
