(Sep. 7.)—On the 7th September, General Lake’s army marched from Aligurh towards Delhi, and on the 11th encamped within six miles of that city; but scarcely were the tents pitched, when the enemy unexpectedly appeared in front. The picquets immediately turned out and General Lake with the cavalry proceeded to reconnoitre.²
