It is useless to speculate on the possible result of Kaikhusrau's accession, for, immediately after Balban's death, he was sent off to Multan to which he had been appointed to succeed his father¹. Fakh-ruddin and his people are reported to have had some private quarrel with the prince Muhammad and so were unwilling, despite Balban's last request, to allow his son to ascend the throne, "lest harm came to them"². Malik Beksariq, the *wazir* Hasan Basri, and the *dabir*, who opposed this arbitrary measure, were imprisoned by the *kotwal's* party and eventually exiled³. Bughra Khan's son, Kaiqubad, was then given the title of Muizzuddin and was raised to the throne⁴.
