According to Muslim historians Malik Nāib found two rajas ruling kingdoms in this region. One was Vīra Pāndya, and the other was probably Ravivarman or Kulashekharadeva of Kerala. Both were defeated and plundered, and a Muslim governor was left at Madura. An interesting fact recorded of the expedition into the kingdom of Dvāravatīpura is the encounter of Malik Nāib's army at Kadūr with some Moplahs, who are described as half Hindus, and lax in their religious observances, but as they could repeat the *Kalima*, or symbol of Islam, their lives were spared.
