¹ According to another account of Tughril’s career in Sīstān he temporarily transferred his allegiance to the Saljūqs, and, having acquired the art of war according to their system, utilized his knowledge for the destruction of his master, but he does not appear to have been acting, in his rebellion, as an agent of the Saljūqs.
