In 1430 Khalaf Hasan of Basrah, an officer of the army of the Deccan, attacked Mahīm, the southernmost port of the kingdom of Gujarāt, and Ahmad of Gujarāt sent his younger son, Zafar Khān, to the relief of the town, while ‘Alā-ud-dīn Ahmad marched to the support of Khalaf Hasan. Mahīm was taken, but Zafar Khān not only besieged the army there, but also took Thāna, a port belonging to the kingdom of the Deccan. The campaign was decided, however, by a battle in which the army of the Deccan was completely defeated and was forced to evacuate Mahīm and retreat.
