In 1509 Ahmad Nizām Shāh died and was succeeded by his son, Burhān I, and in the following year Yūsuf 'Ādil Shāh died and was succeeded by his son Ismā'īl, and Khvāja Jahān died at Parenda. In 1512 Sultān Qulī Qutb-ul-Mulk of Golconda, unable to maintain any longer the fiction of loyalty to Mahmūd Shāh, assumed independence in Telingāna. He did not use the royal title but is usually described by historians as Sultān Qulī Qutb Shāh¹.
