Reference has been made to the conquest of Gujarāt by ‘Alā-ud-dīn’s officers, Ulugh Khān and Nusrat Khān. Bhīm II, ‘the Simpleton,’ who reigned from 1179 to 1242, was the king who defeated Muhammad b. Sām, and though he was afterwards defeated by Qutb-ud-dīn Aibak, who plundered his capital, Gujarāt was not occupied by the Muslims, but remained a Hindu state. Bhīm II was the last of his line, the Solankīs, of which his ancestor Bhīm I, the contemporary of Mahmūd, had been the second.
