Karandeva, the Rāī Karan of the Muslims and the fourth of the Vāghela dynasty, was reigning in 1297, when ‘Alā-ud-dīn Khaljī sent his brother Ulugh Khān and Nusrat Khān to make an end of Hindu rule in Gujarāt. They were successful, and the Rājput Kingdom was overthrown¹. ‘The walls of Anhilvāra were demolished; its foundations excavated, and again filled up with fragments of their ancient temples.’
