¹ Religious missions with Ceylon are also mentioned in 1430 and 1456. The Tooth had been at Kandy since 1286. Gerson da Cunha, 'Memoir of the History of the Tooth Relic of Ceylon' in *Journal of the Bombay branch of the Royal Asiatic Society*, 1875, gives the history of the Tooth. The silver gilt caskets in which it now rests are not unlike a Burmese pagoda in shape; the metal of which they are made and the gems which encrust them are largely Burmese.
