The main narrative, both for the Burmese homeland round Āva, and for Toungoo, to which they were driven, is the Hmannan Yazawin, the standard Burmese chronicle compiled in 1829 from earlier chronicles and from inscriptions. As only 207 out of its 1358 pages have been translated (Luce and Tin, ‘The Glass Palace Chronicle.’ Oxford University Press, 1923), my references are throughout to the original.
