v1.c18.53

Such is the account of the retreat of Ali Adil Shah as given by the Mussulman writer; but the *Annals of Hande Anantapuram* provide us with some other details. Ranga had also summoned Hande Malakappa Nayadu, the governor of Bukkasamudram, and ‘with the assistance of his troops fought with the Muhammadan invaders and routed them’ ¹. This seems to imply that a battle was fought between the two armies; and it was probably then that ‘Ranga’s war-drums were heard in the town of Vijapura (Bijapur)’, as we read in the *Narapati-vijayam* ².
