Nevertheless this seems likely as the Jesuits were on good terms of friendship with the Emperor; moreover the detailed narrative of this campaign seems to be that of an eye-witness. Orme, *Historical Fragments*, p. 228-9, also mentions the siege and conquest of Vellore by Venkata. Cf. Henrion, *Histoire Generale des Missions*, p. 187. Fr. Pimenta says only that Fr. F. Ricio went there after a while.
