16. Some agricultural improvements were effected during Venkata’s reign, but none by himself. All are due to the enterprise of chiefs and of private persons. Venkatapati Nayaningaru, his feudatory, deserves special mention for his efforts to encourage irrigation ⁸. In 1612 the grandson of Velogoti Pedda Kondama Nayadu, and son of Kumara Timma Nayadu, sent for Rudrappa, the ruler of Kulluru, Nellore, and asked him to construct the eastern weir of the Kullur tank, which he did ⁹. It is further recorded that a certain Nayinappa Nayaka, son of Krishnappa Nayaka, improved certain land in South Arcot by constructing a tank near it and digging wells ¹. Finally, one Polusani dug a well in the village of Sowadaridinne, Karnul, in 1603 ².
