v1.c27.57

Venkata was aware of these dissensions, and felt how hard the task of the governor or *adigar* of that city must be. The one appointed in 1599 was, it seems, a man without the experience of years or of affairs; hence Venkata wrote to Fr. Simao de Sa to look carefully after the welfare of the city, and also ordered his adigar to take no serious steps without previously consulting the Jesuits ¹. As a matter of fact, one of the Jesuit letters of 1600 relates that some differences between the governor and the Portuguese were settled through the deligence of Fr. de Sa and Fr. Manoel de Veiga ².
