v1.c8.87

Couto states also that Rama Raya was a great general in the army of Krishna Deva Raya and was actually ruling as Governor in the province of the Badaguas and Teligas 4. He means by this, no doubt, the Telugu country from which the Badagas invaded the South of India 5. This piece of information refers already to the reign of Achyuta, because Correa says that when Rama Raya went to the Court at the time of Achyuta's death, he had come from Paleacate (Pulicat) where he was the 'great Lord' 6. Pulicat was probably at that time the capital of his governorship. According to the Ramarajiyamu, he had also been Kalyana Puravaradhisvara, ruler of the city of Kalyani, probably Kalyandrug, in Anatapur District ¹.
