The pardon so graciously granted by Rama Raya to his brothers is inexplicable at first but after consideration it is not unnatural. He wanted to strengthen his power as the same writer points out—“by the reduction of many troublesome neighbours, and the elevation of his own adherents and relatives” ². On the first point we shall touch in the following chapter; but this is the place for examining some facts that confirm the second point of the preceding statement.
