The authorities on which this volume is based have been fully discussed in the Introduction. I have derived the greatest help from Maspero's "Le Royaume du Champa". This book must always remain the chief source and constant guide to anyone who tries to write a history of Champa. But the discovery of a number of new inscriptions since the publication of that book has made it obsolete and incomplete in many places. While, therefore, Maspero's work has been accepted as the chief guide, considerable deviations from it will be noticed in the present volume.
