v2.c13.40

The fame of Paloura or Dantapura, in Kaliṅga (the coastal region between the Mahānadi and the Godāvarī), was no doubt due, at least to a great extent, to its importance as the point of departure for the Far East. That probably also explains why the Chinese referred to Java and other islands of the Archipelago as Kling, no doubt an abbreviation of Kaliṅga. All these point out to Kaliṅga as the particular region in India which was more intimately connected, through its port Paloura, with the Far East in the early period.
