Saint Martin has identified this with Rangamati, an ancient capital, situated on the western bank of lower Brahmaputra, and now called Udepur. Yule, who agrees with this identification, gives, as the Sanskrit form of the name of the place, Rangamṛtikā. Wilford, however, differs from this view and gives an altogether different version of the text (M'Crindle—Ptolemy, p. 229).
