v2.c13.s2.t2.98
We must now go back to the Nālandā copper-plate which refers to the Śailendra kings as ruling over Yavabhūmi and Suvarṇadvīpa. Paṇḍit H. Śāstrī repeats the generally accepted view when he says: "The Yavabhūmi and the Suvarṇadvīpa are evidently identical with the Yavadvīpa and the Suvarṇadvīpa islands spoken of in Sanskrit works like the Rāmāyaṇa or the Kathāsaritsāgara, and are unquestionably the modern Java and Sumatra."¹
