Their location cannot be indicated with certainty. Their life and habits would suggest them to be nomadic western tribes beyond the Sarasvatī. There are, however, certain indications in the Sūtras which definitely connect the Vrātyas with the Māgadha so that the conclusion that some Vrātyas were dwellers in Magadha is irresistible.
