The Puṇḍras, whose name occurs also in the Sūtras, have been located in Bengal and Bihār by the *Mahābhārata*. They were situated in North Bengal and gave their name to their capital town Puṇḍravardhana. The Puṇḍras are probably the ancestors of the Puros, an aboriginal caste in Bengal.⁴⁵
