THERE is no genealogy of the Agastyas, and the Matsya alone (202) gives a list of gotras, which it calls their vaṃśa. ‘Agastya’ appears in various stories at various times from the earliest age down to the Pāṇḍavas’ time,¹ and there is great indefiniteness about the Agastyas.
