The whole of the myth regarding origins has been set out (pp. 253 f). In it there is no connexion between Manu’s nine sons and Purūravas Aila and Sudyumna except through Ilā with her fabulous changes of form. It seems probable that three different myths have been blended together in an attempt to unify the origins of three different dominant races, said to have been derived from Manu, Purūravas and Sudyumna, and apparently constituting three separate stocks.
