There are many allusions to matters that were handed down from very ancient times, long before the original Purana was compiled, such as old songs (gāthās) sung by Yayāti,¹ and songs eulogizing the famous kings, Māndhātṛ,² Arjuna Kārtavīrya (p. 16), Alarka (p. 16), Rantideva,³ Nṛga,⁴ and others.⁵
