³⁷ This is a translation of the passage in the Lucknow Text of Firishta. Briggs’ version is somewhat different. Probably the passage in the text which he utilised was differently worded. He says: ‘ Belāl Dew, convened a meeting of his kinsmen and resolved, first to secure the forts of his own country, and then to remove his seat of government among the mountains. Krishna Naig promised, on his part also, that when their plans were ripe for execution to raise all the Hindoos of Warungole and Telingana, and put himself, at their head.” The rest of the passage agrees with the Lucknow Text of Firishta. Briggs, I, p. 427. Firishta’s Belāl Deo is of course Virūpākṣa Ballāla, son and successor of Vir Ballāla who was anointed to the Crown in 1343 A.D. This has been discussed before.
