¹ F. E. Pargiter, *The Nations of India at the Battle between the Pāṇḍavas and Kauravas* (*J.R.A.S.*, 1908, p. 334), gives a complete analysis of the forces. The author admits that the ethnological value of the general statement made above is diminished by the fact that the nations on either side were not of the same stock; also it must be remembered that kings were not always of the same stock as the people they ruled and brought to war.
