v1.c24.58

The Pradyotas were kings of Avanti (W. Mālwa) and their capital was Ujjain. Pradyota (Pajjota) himself, like Bimbisāra and Ajātaçatru (Ajātasattu), the fifth and sixth in the list of Çiçunāgas, and like the Pūru Udayana (Udena) of Vatsa (Vaṃsa) and the Ikshvāku Prasenajit (Pasenadi) of Kosala, was contemporary with the Buddha¹. The first of the Pradyotas, and the fifth and sixth of the Çiçunāgas, who are separated by more than 150 years at the least according to the Purāṇas², were therefore ruling at the same period in different countries.
