¹ As another illustration of the uncertainties of Orissan history may be mentioned the fact that nobody yet knows who founded the magnificent Liṅgarāja temple at Bhuvanesvar. According to the *Mādlā-Pāñji* Lalatendu Kesari built the temple in *Śaka* 588 (A.D. 666). Recent studies however tend to show that it was probably erected by one of the ancestors of Uddyotakesarin in *c.* 1000 A.D. See R P. Chanda, *ASI*, 1923-24, pp. 119-22; also B. C. Mazumdar, *OM*, pp. 196-99; N. Tripathi, in *JBORS*, 1928, June, p. 303; *AO*, Vol. II, pp. 56-58.
