³ Only *TN* (Vol. I, p. 491) mentions ‘Jai Chand of Banāras, Kinnauj and the territory of Awadh’ in the list of victories of Muḥammad Ghūrī. But it is doubtful whether by ‘Kinnauj’ he meant the city or the territorial division of that name. *TN* (Vol. I, pp. 627-28) mentions ‘Kinnauj-i-Shergarh’ (city of Kanauj) as one of the conquests of Iltutmish.
